Shadow of a Son
During the month of June, 2010, I spent several weeks traveling in Europe with a study-abroad program of sculpture students from East Carolina University. I spent 2 weeks in Latvia at the Pedvale Sculpture Park working on installation land art pieces under the theme "Stone/Color". The following images document my creation of "Shadow of a Son", a 6ft x 35ft stone installation. The piece is made up of old limestone border blocks from a local farmhouse foundation and granite fragments from many years of previous stone carvings at Pedvale. It is located on a grassy hillside meadow just below a naturally occurring spring, which flows over the stones at the top and ripples through the granite chips, draining out from a small pool of water which accumulates at the lower portion.
